Here comes the end of the year again. I've been pretty lax about posting here this year, sorry. But I do have one last story for the year.

Just when you thought the "I have a Death Note" craze was over there's another! I thought we'd all learn that this wasn't a good idea. But it would seem that the typical teenage "I hate the world and I'm going to make a list of people I want dead" had turned into "I hate the world so I'm going to list how I want people to die and hope it comes true, just like Death Note". To bad kids never learn.

Now, past that I have to say, Naruto is getting strange. The latest chapters are just getting weird. Still, can't help but read it every week. I've watched about 80 or so of the Japanese Episodes and I love them too (fell behind cause of holiday stuff). And now, after seeing the first two English episodes (and looking at the upcoming voice cast) I'm addicted to that as well. *laughs*
And finally, I've just found Darker than BLACK: Ryuusei no Gemini (DtB2). I'm really hoping it's as good as the original.
Most likely I'll be catching up on these anime series as well as starting the Nabari No Ou manga series between now and the New Year since all the shows I watch are going on break. At some point I may even get back around to try to watch FmA: Brotherhood again (I still can't get it to download right anywhere).

Bits And Pieces of This And That

So, it's been a while since I've posted and I still only have a few minor 'exciting' things to tell. (I don't get out much.)
For starters, since I finished all 7 seasons of MacGyver I moved on to another series I remembered and wanted to revisit: The Pretender. For those who've forgotten, it was a series on NBC that ran from 1996 to 2000. Then in 2001 TNT showed a couple of movies; sadly neither of which I've seen nor, currently, have the ability to get a hold of.
So I've been searching around the web and I stumbled across a story that so far I've tracked back to having started in late 2007. Apparently there's been talk for more Pretender. The show's co-creators would love to do either another movie or perhaps mini-series to give the fans a more solid ending.
However the last bit of chatter I could find on it was from mid-2008 so I have no idea what's going on with it right now. I'm intrigued and hopeful but I'm not staking my life on it happening.

Past that I'm currently working to find space to work on cosplays and decide just what I'm going to wear to Geek.Kon (if we're still going...) as well as what I'll wear to Daisho Con which is a few weeks after that. I know one costume I'm wearing for sure to Daisho (we're doing a group thing) but other then that I'm at a loss. Time to start digging around and see what I can pull off.

Oh, and to all the Naruto fans, going back to my closing statement of my January post, specifically my statement about Kakashi: I was right... and then I was wrong. And instead of giving out another spoiler I'm not going to say anything more. ^w^ Enjoy.

I wish I could say more about FmA: Brotherhood but I've been so darn busy (and hate the FUNi video player as much as it hates me) I haven't had a chance to watch any more of the episodes. I've disappointed myself. Hell, I've even fallen behind on reading the manga. I need more computer time...

Oh and FOX's new show, Mental, which just started tonight, it's worth looking at. I'm not going to say it's great just yet (considering I've only seen the one episode) but it's got the potential to be. I mean when you have your lead character stark naked within the first few moments of the show... well you catch attention, that's for sure. But the story seems to be written well enough and I payed a fair amount of attention while it was on (which is about as good as you can get from me, I have a need to multitask all the time). I'll be watching it this summer.
And since my brother has taken interest, USA has a new series starting June 4th called Royal Pain. So far the teasers look interesting enough and leave you questioning just what's going to happen. All I can say for sure is we'll be watching at least the first episode.
In general, even though these seem like really good shows, I'd really like to see a network come up with a new show that isn't a medical drama.

Multitasking

So, I've had a pretty full week. Anime Detour was the 3rd-5th, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood started on the 5th, and the past few Naruto chapters have been quite interesting.

Detour went as well as could be expected. I had a good time, though I would have prefured if the stairs weren't the only means to get around on a 22 story building. Yes, there were elevators but you had to be lucky enough to catch one and then have that one be empty enough for you to get in it. Not something that happened often enough with 4,000 people in one place. So in the end a lot of the time was spent catching my breath up in the room rather then running about on the convention floors. Still, it was totally worth the trip.

Naruto, while seeming to be wraping up is doing it's best to string us along oh so slowly while it works it's way through the plot. Still the chapters will hold your interest and just when things seem to get a shade to boring a new twist get's thrown in to keep you waiting for the next chapter.

Now for the big news: FmA: Brotherhood. I finally got a chance to sit and watch it. The art and animation are amazing. Voice work is good too [though some were off in places]. However this is where my compliments end for now. Sadly, I was unimpressed with the first episode. Again we were treated to an exclusive story, which was interesting but ultimately irrelivent.
The episode was used to [re]introduce us to characters we already know. I, honestly, can't imagain a need for this. I don't see people who haven't either seen the first series or read the manga picking up the series here. Then there was an unnessisary amount of humor shoved into the episode and the multitude of the characters were made to mistake Alphonse as the Fullmetal Alchemist.
It was almost to easy to forget the story when you're thinking about all the old sceens that corespond to all the old jokes that got shoved in-- Al's the Fullmetal Alchemist, Ed is short, Roy is useless in the rain, Armstrong loves his muscles and hates his shirts, Hughes is obsessed with his daughter, Kimblee (Kimbley) loves to blow crap up-- all of which, and more, were brought up at least twice in a 24 minute episode.
Then they tried to give the story a place in the timeline... ugh. It's sometime just after the Lior dealings. We know this because they used a similar scene from another episode where Lust gets a phone call and tells Gluttony not to eat... whoever it was he was munching on.
The only way to actually spoil this episode is to tell you about Issac. Which I won't. If you want to know who he is you'll just have to watch the episode. I did it, you can too. It's quite easy, just get your butt over to the FUNimation website, they're showing subtitled episodes for FREE. [Here, a link to the show's video list page.]
Then we were given a preview of Episode 2, entitled "The First Day". What's it about? How the brothers came to be in their current state. Do we really need another "How Mom died and they just wanted to see her smile again" episode? Hasn't this been explained and refrenced enough yet? Apparently the answer is no cause here we go again.

I love this series to death, I really do but I was hoping for so much more in these first few episodes. I figured since there was already one series out we'd just skip right along to the part where it derailed in the first go around (maybe even back track a little from there to get everyone up to speed) then move through the manga storyline I was told it was suppose to be following.
Now I'm not so sure what storyline they're going to use and I have a feeling we'll probably see a couple dozen episodes of regurgitated information before finally getting to "the new stuff" this second series is suppose to be all about. I'm gonna ride it out though and see where all of this leads.

FmA 2 - It's right around the corner

So the new Fullmetal Alchemist series is almost on the air (in Japan). And we've been given a list of some voice actors and actresses and I'm a little disappointed but I'm going to hold off on full disappointment till I hear the show because it might not be nessisary.
As of list they gave only 5 actors/actresses are returning to renew their previous roles: Romi Paku (Edward Elric), Rie Kugimiya (Alphonse Elric), Keiji Fujiwara (Maes Hughes), Kenji Utsumi (Alex Louis Armstrong), and Hidekatsu Shibata (King Bradley).
But there are far more characters that will not be voiced by the same actors. Those characters include: Roy Mustang (a personal disappointment), Riza Hawkeye, Jean Havoc, Vato Falman, Maria Ross, Winry Rockbell, Zolf J. Kimblee, Scar, Lust, Envy, and Gluttony.
The show is set to premeire April 5, 2009; so you can expect to hear all sorts of views and opinions starting moments after it airs. And we'll most likely see a flood of fansubs possibly hours after that.

IT'S FINALLY HERE!

Okay, so it's not here here... yet. But FUNimation finally has it! What is it? The Fullmetal Alchemist OVAs! They finally got the licensing rights to the 4 OVA shorts that were released as extras on the Japanese DVD release of the movie. And it'll all be "uncut, subbed, and dubbed".
They haven't given any exact date though... just "late 2009" is all that's being said right now. But hey, it's better then "we're working on getting them".

Keanu Bebop and Naruto Chaos

Apparently I'm not the only one consurned with Reeves playing Spike. It seems to be the general ruling that it's going to suck and casting Reeves isn't going to help it any. I know, around 150 fans doesn't seem like an accurate count but my thought is if almost 80% of those damn near 150 fans are troubled by this casting the rest of the community can't be that far off.
However, I give you the option to prove me wrong. The poll (for what I know) is still going on and you can cast your vote. It's over at the TokyoPop website. HERE is the direct link. So go ahead, prove me wrong or right.

And now, for one of my favorite things to discuss. Narutards. And I'm not talking about the intelligent ones.
For those who haven't been following along there has been a new development in the Naruto fandom. ViZ, in conjucture with about a half dozen online video sites, has begun streaming OFFICIAL subs of the Naruto Shippuden series. This caused all the intelligent fansubbers to stop subbing the weekly episodes. Granted, it wasn't without warning and the terms were explained.
Still this seemed to send the less intelligent of the fans into chaos. I, for one, have had fun watching. People thought it was all a big joke at first. Then when they found out it wasn't, let's just say I laughed for days.
But when you really get into and see the stupidity it just hurts your soul. The most obnoxious statement: OMG! Like, I can't believe I have to actually pay to see Naruto! It's not fair! [Usually typed with missing vowels or misspellings even though I know these kids live right here in America.]
If they had just payed attention they would know that you only need to pay for a membership if you want to be the first kid on your block to see it (And most likely you're going to be the only kid on your block watching). Otherwise you suck it up and wait a week and the episode is free for all to view.
But I suppose what really stings is that people still want the fansubbers to continue subbing because they think the quality is better.
My reply to that: "NO! Bad Narutard! BAD!" *beats them with a rolled up Death Note*
Fansubs aren't better, they're just more entertaining. Fan based material doesn't have to follow the exact specification of a licesence because it isn't in any way affiliated with one. So they can take the liberty to "amp up" the langauge a notch.
In closing I would like to address all the Narutards present: Be a good little fan and support the OFFICIAL material! If you don't you're not going to get anything new once Naruto is over. And yes, it's rounding it's end. Oh and one more thing to those just watching the anime: Asuma, Orochimaru, Jiraiya, and Itachi die. Oh and Kakashi [maybe, jury is still out on that one but it's lookin' that way].

More Anime News

Cartoon Network will have played 205 episodes of the Naruto series by the time 2009 rolls around but for whatever reason they think it's a good idea to play episodes 216-220 subbed online at Naruto.com. Then again, it is sort of a preparation for the first 8 episodes of Naruto Shippuden set to premiere on said site January 2nd.
Apparently after the big "huuzah" of the Shippuden premiere things shimmer back to normal on January 8th where subscribing Crunchyroll members will be able to pick up where the fansubers left off with Episode 91 and starting January 15 Naruto.com, Crunchyroll (non subscribed), Hulu and Joost will be streaming the same episodes completely free. I think I'll just wait for the free eps.

And to add to the hype, the 10th Anniversary of the Naruto manga is coming up in 2009. This is going to be marked with a Third Shippuden Theatrical Movie. I haven't heard anything beyond that though. I'm still waiting to see the second Shippuden Movie, Bonds.

Keanu Reeves. One of my guilty pleasures. Don't get me wrong, I don't go out of my way to see things that he's in and most of the time I think his skills are lacking but there's something about his face that makes me keep watching.
Cowboy Bebop. What can I say. A smash hit in it's own right, not something I've personally seen all the way through (though there are people who would be more then happy to remedy that). A wonderful piece of work.
Twentieth Century Fox. A company with an ego (as most movie companies do have). More often then not they release good movies but no one is perfect. Not on my "least favorite" list.

What do all these things have in common you ask? Well it would seem that TCF has begun working on a live-action adaptation of Cowboy Bebop. (Okay, two of the three covered). Reeves is to play the lead in that there film.
Erwin Stoff will be produceing. Stoff also worked on I Am Ledgend (an awesome movie in my opinion. If you haven't seen it you should. Twice.)
According to ANN (my favorite place for Anime News) the whole project was just speculation but I recieved the newsletter e-mail from TokyoPop (publishers of the English manga for Cowboy Bebop) that said this movie was a sealed deal.

At Years End and Oregon Trail

So it's that time of year again... time for the year to be over. But that's okay. It happens all the time. We'll be fine. The next year will be right there to comfort us when this one leaves us.

And to prove I'm not crazy I dusted off my old computer (equiped with Windows '98 if I'm not mistaken) and played some good old Oregon Trail. ^.^ While a hilarious game all on it's own it was much more fun when I made some Naruto characters (specifically Sakura, Naruto, Sai, Sasuke, and Ino) travel the trail.
They started their journey on April 1st with Sakura (a doctor) leading the mission. However it only took 14 days for things to go wrong at the Big Blue River crossing. Here tragity struck as the wagon sank and Sasuke drowned (and I laughed for a good minute's worth of time).
After that Sai went on a limb brakeing spree (an arm on May 6th, a leg May 9th, and another arm on May 16th).
Then the party decided it would be fun to bother snakes (lol). Naruto got bit a total of 3 times (May 28th, June 6th, and July 17th), Sai twice (August 8th and October 19th) and Ino once (August 15).
Cholera was contracted twice (Sai on June 22 and Naruto on October 21) and Typhoid was contracted once by Ino (on July 13th).
The journey came to an end on October 31 when the party finally reached the destination. Honestly I think it was a good thing the party leader was a doctor otherwise, will all his broken limbs, I think Sai would have died.

I played another round with an FmA theme (Hohenheim being leader with Edward, Alphonse, Roy, and Heiderich in the party) and it went a little better.
Alphonse (March 21-leg) and Roy (June 25th-arm) both broke limbs, Roy got lost (and about a week was spent looking for him), There were 4 snake bites (2 for Alphonse [July 1st and August 26th] and 1 each for Edward [August 11th] and Roy [May 3rd]), Edward kept getting exhasuted, and Heiderich got a fever.
Nobody died and the goal was reached in Good health. It took nearly three and a half extra months though. They started March 1st and didn't make it till December 11th.

So while on the subject of Fullmetal Alchemsit and Naruto there's some big news about both of them.
Naruto - Dattebayo will be dropping them as a sub since OFFICIAL subs will be avalible starting January. Subs will be avalible on Crunchyroll as well as the official English website (http://www.naruto.com)
Fullmetal Alchemist - The new series of FmA will be launching on television in Japan this coming April. A teaser trailer was fun on Sunday.
The trailer says, "New training … a fullmetal artificial limb, a body of armor … the brothers' journey begins. Fullmetal Alchemist: April 2009 Training. In this palm, is there hope or despair?"*

We finally have it! We now know what all 9 Jinchuriki look like and which beast they house within themself. The opening page was a DOUBLE and it was in COLOR. It doesn't get much more exciting than this. Now if only we could get a color picture of Kushina, Minato, and Naruto as a family...

I haven't actually read the chapter yet but I was so excited I couldn't wait. (That and I'm sure the chapter will dampen my excitement so I wanted to do this now).

So, Geek.Kon is over and done with for this year and I have to say, it was a blast. ^.^ Saturday was totally rockin' and Sunday, though quiet, was a plesent end.
With the small delay of waking up a little late on Saturday, we made it in and after finally figuring out where we could park we dove right in. The first panel we went to was "Alchemy for Idiots" which for me was quite entertaining as I ran a FmA panel in 2007 at Detour. It was fairly similar, percent wise, on who'd read the manga, who read the scanilations, and who'd seen the completed anime. However they chose to run theirs as close to spoiler free as possible where mine was full of them.
After that we spent a good amount of time wondering around through the artist alley rooms and the dealers rooms as well as just con space in general. And during our wondering we bumped into a friend of mine so she joined our little jumbled group and now we were traveling with Inuyasha as well. There were a lot of really good cosplayers and since it was Serra's Birthday on Sunday we had a few group glomps to celebrate. ^.^
Then it was time for the Masquerade, we arrived about 5 minutes early and got some really good seats. The costumes entered totally rocked and the "waiting for the judges to return" show was hilarious, for the most part.
After making our way back outside Serra and myself were more then ready for some down time so we were going to meander our way to the van and head home... well that was when The Ninja snuck up behind me for a hug. So I got a picture with him, chated a little, and said goodbye. Inuyasha then spoted some other friends she knew so we took a moment to say hello to them as well before packing it in for the day.
We returned for Sunday, this time bringing Inuyasha with us, and were slightly surprised at the lack of people who were around but the ones who were ended up being really friendly so it was totally made up for it. Inuyasha and Asuma went ahead and tried out the foam sword battles, which ammused the rest of us. We then wondered over and took a look at the table top gaming rooms, which were pretty well emptied out at the time and we weren't really sure what they were playing but we needed a breather so we took a seat in one of the rooms for a little while. After that we wondered some more, glancing in at the artist alley once more and then made our way to the "Sub VS Dub" panel. It was interesting to hear the different reasons for people taking sides, I enjoy both. After that there wasn't much left to the con and we were all really tired so we waved goodbye to Geek.Kon and headed for home.

And finally, a few words from me:
I'd like to thank the Geek.Kon for putting on an awesome convention and being so attentive to their attendies needs. Nicely done. I also want to thank the couple different cosplay groups who were involved with the "Group Glomp" for helping my group make Serra's birthday an awesome one. And I must say: Ninja, you were awesome!
Finally I'd like to say thanks to my crew! So thanks to Asuma for all the driving he did, and to Serra for taking so many pictures. Even more thanks to Crimson for putting up with me dressing him up as Itachi even though he's not a Naruto fan. ^.^

Yes! It's time for DtB! ... Soon... From what I can make out of the pre-trailer "transmission" their's going to be an announcement about Darker than BLACK at New York AnimeFest on Friday. To bad I'm no where close to New York. Then again that's the weekend I'll be going to Geek.Kon in Madison, Wisconsin.
I know I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for any bit of news they give us via the web though. ^.^

FUNimation Domination

In just a matter of a few weeks FUNimation has aquired rights to something in the neighborhood of 50 new titles for distrabution.
How'd they obtain so many titles?
Well, they've obtained the titles from other companies. Or in the case of one, a shell of a former company.
First Geneon signed with them for distrabution of about 20 of their titles. List of said titles can be found on the FUNi site in their news announcement.
Next came ARM Corporation and their deal to allow distrabution of around 30 titles. Again, a list can be found in here.
As wonderful of an announcement as that may seem are they be setting themselves up for a downfall?
FUNi has been leading the industry not only in quality but in market sales and profits, making them one of the number one (if not the number one) U.S. anime distributers. Still, as we've seen with Geneon, if a company gets to excited and ahead of themselves not only can they let thier fans down but they're also set to destroy themself. The questions begging for an answer in my mind is weather or not they've considered this and have they taken steps to prevent this 'self-implotion'?

None the less, FUNi does great work and really knows how to hype their products and keep their fans in suspence, a rarity in many markets. I know I'll be patiently waitting to see what else FUNimation has for us this summer.
*cough*DTB*cough* Which they did mention in their June 23 Quickie podcasts saying "auditions for Darker than BLACK are all wrapped up and recording is well underway." *squee* ^.^ They need to tell us the cast sometime soon. I must know. MUST KNOW!
I quite enjoy that they've introduced a weekly podcast that gives us the little details that would be silly to type into a news announcement. So if your as curious to know as I am stay tuned to funimation.com/podcast to learn all there is to know.

Edit: And another strange bit of information, BONES the Japanese company responsible for giving us Fullmetal Alchemist and Darker than BLACK had a fake leak. The falsely proposed projects, entitled Fullmetal 2 and Darker 2 which are to be sequels to the two aforementioned shows, were listed. However neither of these are official so don't go fangasam on all your friends. For the full story check out ANNs report.

So while surfing the net... oh, I'd say about two weeks ago... and I happened across this little "gem of wisdom":

Granted this post took place on a forum before the big "Tobi is Madara" reveil but for the love of Ra that is the worst train of thought I've ever seen. It offically bumped "The Akatsuki Leaders are Naruto's Parents" crazyness out of the number one spot.

While I enjoyed the classic Speed Racer I watched it so long ago I don't really remember much as to what the storyline was but what little kid doesn't love watching race cars.
But I have to say Thank You, Ra! Finally someone agrees that the visuals for Speed Racer are beyond ridiculous.

From Anime News Network's Speed Racer Review Article by Zac Bertschy:
"The problem is that the act of actually sitting through this movie is not unlike being
punched in the eyeball with a neon hammer for 2 hours."

It's actually a rather unbiast review. The more I read about the visuals the more it sounded like you'll get the feeling your high while watching the movie. It also seems to sound like they didn't really put to much effort into anything that didn't involve the raceing, though it sounds like that's the majority of the film.
I still think the film is a travisty. A farce at best. Who knows, when it finally reaches DVD and if I'm increadably bored and out of all other options, I very well may rent it and give it a look. But I doubt I'll ever be that desperate.

I'm not sure if this is a good or bad thing. It comes across as being a positive report but if you listen to the actual words it seems a bit negative. Still they support it. But I'm not sure weather or not I appreciate what's said... it's not bad. Worth the listen, that's for sure. It only runs about 6 minutes.

They're still fishing for more

It never ends. Hollywood is just going to keep digging till we make them stop.
Now they're useing Ghost in the Shell for their little little klepto party. Steven Spielberg is who we have to blame for this one. Still it's so new in conseption that all we do know is that Spielberg is the one who thought it up. We have no plot, no cast, no director. We'll have to wait and see.
And the other, though debated on weather it's an anime or not, Avatar: The Last Airbender. Yeah, they got M. Night Shyamalan to not only direct but to write it. And it's apparently a trilogy. Yeah, I'm scared too. Especially since I've seen the abomination that was the Ben 10 live action.

So here's the run down of the uninspired Hollywood's live action remakes:
Transformers (The one that started this all), Speed Racer (Oh Ra does this look horrible), Dragonball, Akira, Seven Samurai, Battle Angel, Ghost in the Shell, and Avatar: The Last Airbender.
Oh it's going to be interesting when these all start coming out in theaters... Dragonball is due out this year and the first Akira is hoped for a 2009 release but the rest probably won't be seen till 2010. Joy. -.-

On another note it would seem that there is to be a Japanese movie based on Blood: The Last Vampire. However the majority of the movie will be done in English rather then Japanese. Now, I'm not a huge Blood/Blood+ fan so the plot doesn't really mean anything to me. However it doesn't sound that bad. Still, in my opinion most things should stay animated rather then be made live action.

The Narutarded leading the Blind...

Okay, for those who don't know I went to Anime Detour April 3-5 and it was awesome. Minus the coming home sick thing. This was my 4th year going (and the cons 5th year running). I have to say I had a bit more fun this year then last year. I think I had my picture taken just as many times as last year... though I have yet to see any posted online... kinda sad. (There were like a million cameras at the Naruto photoshot and only about a dozen posted... wtf?)
Turns out I'm also in the background of a video on YouTube, though it's not what I would call one of my shining moments. ^^; (Not to mention, in my opinion, the event being taped wasn't as spectacular as everyone seemed to think it was...)
I think I'll have to get some shots of me in my Sakura cosplay on my own time so I can add them to my various cosplay sites. (I adore that outfit! It turned out so well.)
And my brother went with me this year, which was awesome. I got to dress him up too! He was Itachi... wearing sunglasses... making him Blind Itachi ^.^ He's not really a Naruto fan but he wanted to cosplay and he made a damn good Itachi... horray for putting my Narutardedness on other people!
Here's the breakdown of my weekend: Friday was spent in street clothes mixed with Naruto gear. The day started with waiting 2 hours for my badge... that was just plain boring as hell. Then it consided of me rushing to get ready for the RR v MSA panel that I co-hosted with 4 other people. I then spent some time chilling till Opening Ceremonies at 5 P.M. After that we spent the evening relaxing and preping for the crazyness that is Saturday.
After a semi-late start and missing the A.M. Naruto panel, dressed and ready, my brother and I set to wondering between the hotel room, dealers room, and courtyard for most of the afternoon. We caught the Witchblade panel (where the best line ever uttered was born and used all weekend) and then resummed wondering for a short while before returning to the room to obtain food and watch the Cosplay Competition. It wasn't as exciting as last year's, and it almost seemed to be a bit shorter. Still, not going to complain cause then people will tell me to sign up for it. Not happening.
Anyway, then we opted for watching the Dance rather then attending but that wasn't as exciting as we though and were glad we stayed in the room. We watched Adult Swim and called it a night (even though it was early in the A.M. when we went to sleep.)
Sunday finally rolled around and we were met with cloudy/rainy weather and it was about noon when we woke. So instead of cosplaying for only 4 hours we opted to just wonder in regular clothing. (Thus my pre-time skip Sakura and my brother's Kimblee cosplays never saw the light of day.) We wondered between con space and the room for a portion of the afternoon before making our way to Closing Ceremoines, where we got a very anti-climactic End of the World. XD
And that was my weekend at Anime Detour 2008. I wish I would have taken pictures... perhaps the story would have been more interesting then... oh well, can't fix that now. ^.^

Alright, so it's that time again. Time for me to complain. This segment is called "The Live Action De-Evolution". Why? Because Hollywood won't leave my fandom alone.
First, I'd like to start by blaming this whole thing on the damn Transformers movie and the people who hyped it way more then it deserved. You all fail and it's your fault. With that out of the way I shall now complain about what it really bothering me.
Akira. DiCaprio, get your damn hands off! This movie already sounds ridiculous and it's only in the planning stages. Not to mention I already have 3 strikes against it.
1- DiCaprio is involved. 'Nough Said. Damn bastard.
2- New Manhattan? Don't fuck with the setting. Setting fucking just leads to character fucking. (And not in a good way).
3 - The announced cast already pisses me off. DiCaprio is getting all his friends in but the thing is most of them have a defined character to their name already and when you think of said character you immediately think they should be killed by Akira rather then star in a film with him.
Oh and now, according to the newest announcements, it's going to be a two parter. That's right, they're going to make it into two movies. Three volumes of the manga for each movie. Ridiculous.
Next on the list is Speed Racer. What the fuck. The CGI is just pathetic. Another classic butchered by Hollywood and their money grubbing hands. Not to mention that the cast looks just ridiculous. Sure there's only so much you can do to make people look like cartoon counterparts but damn they didn't even try to find a balance between Real and Cartoon. They killed it. They really did.
Then there's the Robotech rumor. Apparently Tobey Maguire was going to get his grubby paws on the project but because there was no way to use Macross material the plot was a flop so they quit the project. If they quit, great! Good for you Tobey. Let the idea die. Thank you. If they didn't quit and are still working on a way to make it work, shame on you all. You fail.
As always I'm still unimpressed with the idea of a Dragonball live action but the cast isn't horrible, the crew seems alright, but the story just seems stale. They'll probably try and make it flashy and exciting which will just over shadow and semblance of plot and make the whole move one big mess. Still, it's better then the abomination that is the Akira movies.
And now the newest live-actions in the mill: Seven Samurai and Battle Angel.
With Ra as my witness I swear I'll use my Death Note to beat anyone involved with this if they mess up Seven Samurai. It's a very new project with almost no information availible at this time but the original was a classic live action from 1954. It's also already had one make over (The Magnificent Seven) so it's no shock that they'd want to try again. However if they try to "spice it up" for a new generation someone is getting severly beat.
As for Battle Angel I don't really know anything about it to begin with but apparently it's violent and futuristic. Which leads me to thing Akira with a girl. Again it's so new that there's little availible to make a judgement call but the idea is out there so it's part of my annoyance. We'll see what happens with it.

Thus concludes my rant. But I'm sure it won't be my last.

Oh snap, I should pay more attention. There's less then 60 days till Anime Detour and I've still got 3 costumes to work on. It's most definatly time to kick it into gear. Especially since I still need some supplies.
I'm designing costumes for not only myself but one for my brother as well. I'm looking at a short cosplay list this year since funding was low and my shoulder hates long periods of work. For a look at that stuff check out my MSN space, C3.
Besides that I've been trying to keep up on watching my anime/manga/J-Drama. For stats on that check out My AnimePlanet page, though not a complete list as they don't have every anime listed there.
This week Scifi announced that anime would be invading Tuesday nights as well. So it appears we will get series shows Monday and movies/OVAs on Tuesday. (Though they tend to mix movies into Mondays every now and again.) Also Adult Swim will be cutting back on it's Saturday anime (bummer) but Toonami has started into the Naruto fillers (hooray!).
Other then that I don't have much going on... though I have enough things to do. ^-^; So off I go to do!

Live Action Anime Movies?

It would seem that it's the newest fad. There's the obvious Dragonball Movie that's been talked about, Death Note already has 2 with a third in progress, but it would seem that Mushishi has one, Blood The Last Vampire is apparently being worked on, Hana Yori Dango started as a Drama series but will be endding with a movie, and who knows how many others I haven't heard of. I guess it's not really a bad thing but it does beg the question: "Where will it all end?" Each of these titles started as books, were turned into animated series, and now they're live action. I could see if they were trying to update them for a new audience but they're marketing them to those of us who have already read/watched the originals. I guess I'm guilty of incouraging them though because I will or have already watched them.

Death Note: R

That's the actual name of the special/director's cut episode. (The R stands for Rewrite)
Saddly it was a let down. That's right, a let down. Why you ask? It was a clip show. There was no narrative over the clips, there was nothing new added, and they didn't even reveiw the whole show. It was the first half. IT WAS A DAMN CLIP SHOW OF THE FIRST HALF OF THE STORY! Damn I hate when things waste my time.
There was about 3 minutes (at best) of Ryuk and some other shinigami talking (intro and end) but the rest was just clips. Hell the first 51 minutes were all clips from the first 11 episodes.
The whole damn thing plays for 2 hours 10 minutes. 2 HOURS of CLIPS. AHH! Makes me wish I had a Death Note, that way I could use it to constantly smack the crap out of whoever thought a TWO HOUR CLIP SHOW was a good idea! (No I won't write their name in the Note, they deserve the torture for doing something like this.)
Apparently there's just no way for me to fully love anything Death Note.
(There was the two days I spent complaining when I finished the manga, the live-actions were their own horrible story, and now the anime has this aweful clip show... not to mention they exagerate Light's 'madman' side.)

*sigh* Alright, that's out of my system. Happy New Year, I guess. So far this year isn't turning out to be any better then the last, but that was to be expected. I don't know thought "A New Year brings New Opertunities" but it's a lie. A New Year is just the same crap as the year before your just one year older that much closer to the inevidable end to your pointless exsistance. (Am I not the brightest ray of sunshine you've ever met?) Still it's all just a waitting game in the end and you just have to hope your luck will hold out. I don't have anything special planned for this year beside the one trip that's becoming a ritual (as it were) so the quarter of my year will be alright and the rest of it will be spent wondering what the heck I'm going to do. ^.^

Tis true! I plan to be absent for the rest of the year, starting December 1st I'm going to be limiting my computer time in an attempt to get other things done.
So for my last post I shall sigh and complain about the things I shall never get and things that are yet to come!

I'm going to start with Geneon, cause I can. We all know they've messed things up for themselves so I'm going to list all the titles I'm going to miss when they finally fall off the map.
Deltora Quest (which was just newly license and never started); Ergo Proxy; Fate/stay Night; Final Fantasy: Unlimited; Gate Keepers; Gate Keepers 21; Kyou Kara Maoh(Maou) (which hasn't finished it's releases yet); All Tenchi Muyo Series/Movies; This Ugly Yet Beautiful World; and Trigun.

Speaking of Kyou Kara Maou, in Japan it's 3rd season is slated to begin in April of 2008 with a total of 39 new episodes. Which is pretty odd since the second season endded in February of 2006. It's said that it will continue following the novels that the first two seasons were based off. (I thought season two was the end of it... guess I was wrong.)

Lucky for us that someone else picked up the license for Appleseed: Ex Machina. It's schedualed for a March 11, 2008 release. The only down side is that it will have a completely new voice cast. Not my favorite thing but I'll manage (and if nothing else I'll just watch in Japanese with subtitles! ^.^)

And of course I can't post and not talk about the newest instalment of what shall now be called Putting The Death in Death Note!
In Virgina a teen (going to a Military school) was caught with a homemade replica of the Death Note Notebook. Of course the kid was suspended and the book was more then likely confiscated as evidence. Some people will just never learn.

So, I was actually paying attention to a trailer for the new movie The Golden Compass and I've realized that it's yet another book turned into a movie. (The other most reasent book movie is The Seeker: The Dark Is Rising). For a society trying to get kids to read they sure are turning a lot of their reading material into movies. I think that's the worst thing they could do to books, it keeps people from reading them because it becomes:
I've seen the movie what more could there possibly be?
And that's just wrong, there's so much more to books that just doesn't fit into a two hour movie. My 8 year old sister refuses to read the Harry Potter series for two reasons 1-She thinks they're to long (She's 8, anything over 30 pages with out pictures is long to her.) 2-She's seen the movie and believes that she knows the whole story.
Back to my main complaint though, I loved The Dark Is Rising Sequence, it was a beautiful story over the span of 5 books. Even if there is a sequel to this Seeker movie I'm sure a lot of the story was lost and even more of it Hollywoodized. I'm sure they've destroyed it but I won't make the final call on that till I actually see it (I'll probubly just rent the DVD or something)
As for this new movie The Golden Compass I can already assure you they have the other 2 parts to this one in the works or possibly even finished and if they don't then it's just ridiculous to even bother with the first movie. I haven't yet finished reading this one but I do own the collection and I've been in the process of reading it for a couple months now (I haven't really had free time to read which has been really annoying). I don't like Nicole Kidman so I'm probubly never going to watch this movie so I'll never be able to say weather or not it was true enough to the book not to hate. Oh well.

Yep, it's random rant time again. But the first part is going to be all vague and generic so no one will have a clue what I'm talking about. ^.^
Seriously, why do people never learn? Who the hell starts crying two seconds into a conversation that isn't even about anything sad or what ever it is that makes you cry? (I think that's the longest question I've ever written...) Does no one care for the sanity of the world anymore?! For the love of the Gods, I'm going to end up hurting someone.
The major disappointments I have going now though are the fact that I'm going to be dropping my kitty count by one and, at this point, my bro and I have decided (though not offically said) we're probubly not going to the anime con we planned on attending next year. Just to damn broke.
Now since that is out of the way, happier news! I found downloadable Death Note eps! *happy dancey dance* And no, I will not tell you where they are. I'm also over half way done with downloading Darker than BLACK and my Hana Yori Dango TV Drama downloading is going well too. Happy day on the 'New things for me to watch on the computer' front.
How's this for rockin' in your socks, Dattebayo! It looks like we get new Naruto anime for the rest of the month and at the end of it we get a Special! Believe it! The only down side in my Naruto realm is that it probubly won't be till April '08 that there will be any chance of seeing the Shippuden Movie with subtitles. (Got plenty of other things to tide me over till then though.)

1. Who is your favourite Naruto character(s)? Shikamaru, Yondaime, Gaara, Raiga and Ranmaru, Kiba, Neji, Naruto, Kankuro, Orochimaru, Sandaime, Nidaime (yeah, I know the Daimes don't really make that big of an apperence or have much effect on the show/manga)

You know, sometimes I just love this world. I'm not one to avidly read the news but sometimes I do, today was one of those days. Most of it was bad news, though I found this little gem:

Librarians Nominate Death Note for Book Award

I almost died laughing, I really did. Death Note has been the source of much dispute since it's publish and many places have baned the book from schools. Now we're going to give it an award. FTW?
I love Death Note (The anime will premiere on Cartoon Network October 20th!). I think it's a great series so long as it's not taken to seriously and people don't try to emulate it. Still some people do and I laugh at them.

The award it's nominated for is called The Evergreen Young Adult Book Award which is given once a year to help assist teachers in selecting proper materials, other then required reading, for Junior-High and High School students. Weather or not the book wins the award comes down to a vote made by any/all Washington students Grades 7-12. The premise of the vote is to give teenagers a voice in choosing outstanding literature for their age group.

Actually post: THINK before you post things people! Now, I have no problem with the random chatter about how such and such a character will pwn all the other characters or how this character is really that one and he's just hiding from whoever. Fine, enjoy your beloved character. Have fun with your theories. Kudos and congrats for finding something you love and can talk about it and other people will talk back.
It's the damn little bastards who keep coming out with the Quit Taking about Whatever comments/threads/websites. WHAT the hell has possessed you that you would take your free time to TALK about something you HATE?! Is it because the only thing you love is to hate everything? I doubt it, no one is that boring. What is the point of doing something that will only make everyone who loves it laugh and everyone who hates it grown? Seriously, I'd love to know the logic behind this.
For everyone who's so avid about hating things here's my advice to you: LEAVE IT ALONE! Walk away from the crap that annoys you and go do something you love!

Alright, so I guess there should be some running theme(s) for all of this and so the first one I've decided on is Troubles. People got them and I seem to be a magnet those people are attracted to. Be them Personal/Social, Professional, Financial, or Emotional. It's strange though, because my life is and was full of those troubles to. However I've also learned that my experience with them gives me the ability to at least point them all on there way to recover from them.
So perhaps eventually I shall get around to posting up some of the previous problems and their solutions. Till then it will probubly be just the most recent things that have fallen into my lap. So stay tuned!
